The anti-I3 antibody recognizes an epitope that is specific to a nonpolymorphic HLA class II (DR, DP, DQ) Ia antigen constituted of a and b polypeptides of 34 and 29 kDa respectively. This antigen is expressed on monocytes, macrophages, B lymphocytes and activated T lymphocytes. The I3 antibody was characterized during the Fifth International Workshop on Human Leukocyte Differentiation Antigens.
