Laboratory Profile

Director:

Prof. Jerzy Kawiak, MD, PhD.

1.Facilities available: Instrumentation laboratory, animal room (mice), general biology laboratory, computer facilities, tissue culture facility.

2. Instrumentation:

Flow Cytometry: Becton Dickinson FACStrack with 488 nm argon laser,

Other major items: Beckman DU-8 spectrophotometer, cell banking facilities (5K liquid nitrogen container).

Computers and Analytical: SimulSET program on HP computer, PC LYSYS data analysis system IBM PC-bascd non cytometry software: Windows based on IBM computers, Maclntosh Statview, Excel, CricketGraph, etc. Special data base containing over 500 patients im munophenotyped in period 1991-94; data base on cell lines.

3. Specialization areas: Animals: Thymocytes in leukemia-bearing mice; induction of antileukemia response; bone marrow transplantation in leukemia.

Clincal assays: Immunophenotyping of leukemic children (ALL) and adults (CL); analysis in chronic HBV infection; analysis of broncho-alveolar lavage (BAL) in sclerodermia patients, patients with growth factor treatment.

4. Training Opportunities: Basic cytometry; analysis of human peripheral blood and BAL cells; phenotyping; analysis of mice peripheral blood leukocytes, thymocytes and splenocytes; analytical methods of antileukemic immunity.

5. Special courses offered: FACS-instrument usage; cell function studies; immunophenotyping of human leukocytes; mice thymocyte subset analysis.

6. Graduate Program: None.

7. Local Accomodations: Hotel about 20$ per day, lunch about 5$.
