I would like to add one small comment to Chris Reutelingsperger's
excellent commentary on Annexin V and phosphatidyl serine. We and others
have looked at PS expression on the outer side of the platelet membrane
during platelet agonist driven activation, and shown that PS expression
preceeds the appearance of CD62 (P-selectin) on the platelet surface. In
addition, platelet microparticles include a population of particles which
are PS positive, and a PS negative population. The interesting connection
is that platelets similarly express Annexin V binding as a marker of
their "death" - the terminal event in the life of a megakaryocyte.
