BD DNA QC Particle Kits

We have been experiencing some terrible problems with our CVs of our
DNA QC particles that are included in Becton Dickinson's kits. We use
them on the two FACScans that we have and are consistently getting CVs
that are outside (above) the acceptable range as indicated on the kit
documentation. We have had the BD FACScan service people in the lab
for hours and days on end trying to get the CVs down. They have
replaced lasers, flow cells and various other parts in all their
attempts and still have been unsuccessful. Of course, we/they have all
been assuming that the particles in the kits are themselves not
compromised in some way. Our problems have gone on for nearly a year
on many different kits (we receive a new kit each month) with many
different lot numbers. We have recently taken the particles from the
BD kit and have run them on our Coulter XL when also shows
unacceptably high CV values while the Coulter DNA Check beads appear
to have lovely CVs. This leads us to believe that in fact, the QC
particle kits that we have been receiving may have been the problem or
at least a large part of the problem. We can clearly define when we
started having the CV problems and as far as we can tell, it isn't
related to particle preparation or the running of the beads on the
instrument. We use to get great results.

Has anyone else had any product failure regarding the BD DNA QC
Particle kits in recent months? I would be interested in hearing any
problems that anyone may have had.
