CHESAPEAKE CYTOMETRY CONSORTIUM MEETING: The Chesapeake Cytometry
Consortium, an affiliate of the International Society for Analytical
Cytology, held its first meeting of the 1996-1997 year on September 30 1996
at the Gerontology Research Center, NIA/NIH in Baltimore Md. The meeting
covered a variety of topics related to CELL SORTING: CURRENT APPLICATIONS
IN CELLULAR AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY. There were two major presentations by
Dr. Carleton Stewart of Roswell Park Cancer Institute and Dr. Wim Rens from
the USDA. Dr Stewart discussed "Clinical and Research Applications in High
Speed Sorting" and Dr. Rens spoke on "Improved Resolution of Sperm DNA
Analysis for Sperm Sexing". There were three short presentations including:
"Cell Sorting Applications in Immunology and Differential Display" by Dr.
David Winter (NIA/Johns Hopkins), "Stem Cell Sorting" by Gordon Wiegand
(Johns Hopkins), and "Sorting Apoptotic Cells" by Joe Chrest (NIA/NIH). All
the presentations produced lively and spirited discussions amoung those in
attendance. Cytomation provided lunch and refreshments for the meeting.
The Chesapeake Cytometry Consortium is based in the Baltimore-Washington
area and has four meetings each year including the Annual Clinical Symposium
