Sorting by FSC and SSC

We routinely sort murine bone marrow using a lymphocyte gate based on FSC
and SSC. If we reanalyze the lymphocytes we often note a greater than
expected number of large cells. These cells have a much greater FSC and
even SSC than we would have predicted. Is this something that other
sorters see? Is it due to the non-symmetrical shape of the cells or any
other obvious cause. What strategies to avoid this problem have you
taken? Following the recent discussion of sort population purity, we are
aware that our sort windows are necessarily quite close.
