One important consideration when using IEEE-488 connections between
computers is the cable length. Standard stocked cable lengths for IEEE-488
are 1,2, and 4 meters, so your systems should be close together. Although
it isn't recommended, you can go up to 20 meters if you can find someone
to make up the cable for you (INMAC made one for us). You can also do this
using line extenders, but again we are talking more $$$.
