publication-quality histograms

In reply to Dan Coury's questions regarding Publication quality histograms,
there are a number of packages that will do the job. For one parameter
histograms on ASCII data files we used to use a program called AUTOGRAF, which
could overlay up to ten files and output a HP plotter, or saved to a HPGL file.
Any of the major spreadsheet programs such as MS EXCEL also do a nice job, and
allow great variation in axis tick marks, addition of arrows etc. A number of
3d plotting programs can do 2 parameter display, although we had to write our
own software to create 64 x 64 arrays of data suitable for reading by "common"
software. There was a shareware MAC program called Macphase which might be worth
looking up, as I remember it could do colour spectrum displays of 3d contour
plots and then create a "movie" of a number of images, which is a nice way to
display time course data.
If you have any queries, email me direct. Hope this helps,
