Free PC FACS software

In earlier messages, I've offered a PC program I'm developing called
MFI (for Median Fluorescence Intensity). It is available by anonymous
FTP from flowcyt.cyto.purdue.edu, subdirectory pub/martz. For the
earlier descriptions, get MFI200.DOC and MFI210.DOC by FTP. The
program itself is available by FTP as MFI297.EXE.

I wrote MFI partly because I ran out of patience wading repeatedly
through the menus of the HP 310 (older) Becton-Dickinson software
provided with our 1988 vintage FACScan and FACStar. MFI gives me what
I want much faster, in compact tabular form.

MFI works now on HP 310 FACScan and FACStar files, Consort 30 files,
and Coulter Elite files. It should be easy to get it to work on any
FCS standard list mode file; what I'd need is some sample files. The
file names must end in 3 digits (simply rename your files if necessary).

I've just posted a greatly enhanced version 2.97. It adds graphic gate
setting, histograms, and dot plots. All graphics screens can be printed.
It works on a wide variety PC of video and printer devices.

2.97 does just about everything I need for single color work (even if
one wanted to gate on 3 parameters [scatter plus propidium iodide] for
analysis of a 4th parameter, fluorescein). It includes the ability to
time slice large files for kinetic studies, and creates gated ASCII
histogram files for import into other programs, e.g. for publication
quality graphs or histogram overlays.

If your list mode files are on a PC, or can be transferred to a PC (I
can tell you how), please give MFI a try and let me know whether you
find it useful. (If FTP is unavailable to you, I can UUENCODE the
program to you by email if you don't mind receiving a 200K letter.)
