Manager, Core Cytometry Facility

The Laboratory for Cell Analysis (LCA), at UC San Francisco, is looking for a
qualified person to manage the daily operations of the core facility. The LCA
was created to provide the Bay Area research community with advanced cell
analysis and sorting instruments, and technical guidance to best utilize the
technology. The LCA currently houses an EPICS C, a FACStar Plus, FACS 440 with
CICERO, a FACScan, Meridian Confocal ACAS 570, and a Leitz TAS Plus.
This position will primarily consist of assisting and/or training users on
basic principles of instrument operation, setup and controls for a wide variety
of applications (EVERYTHING from adipocytes to yeast, from calcium to
transfections), serve as a resource for experiment design, and assist in the
analysis and interpretation of cytometry data. Incumbent will be responsible
for assuring instrument performance, troubleshooting and repairs as possible,
billing recharge accounts, scheduling, and supervision of one lab assistant.
Assisting in divisional projects designed for isolation of rare cell events for
further molecular cytogenetic characterization will also be expected.
A college degree in biochemistry or related scientific field and knowledge of
techniques used in flow cytometry is required. Ability to work independently
and good organizational skills desired.
