We still smart an EPICS CS. Due to our money-people priorities, we
had to work on it *over two years* with a remote control module. The
device was a gift (we don't look gift horses in the mouth in these
parts, but repair what we can, sometimes 'dentists' fees cost more than a
new 'horse').
It worked like marvel with a remote control of its INNOVA-60 (until somebody
turned off the watertap of the operating laser cooling and the COULTER
Warsaw representative bargained us an INNOVA-90 - with laser control chart
to replace the originally faulty one) actually better than with software
control. And you can reset mainboard computer without resetting the
laser, and vice versa.
As for the costs of the hardware: the whole set is such an ancient device
that old remote control modules gather dust in laser people's back tool
cupboards, and must be either free or cheap these days.
