Abby,

We are using FileGuard from ASD Software, Inc. on our Macintoshes. FileGuard
version 2.9.3 works very well on the Quadra 650 Macs with Operating System 7.1.
It gives a log sheet that imports easily into a spreadsheet-type display (I use
Excel v. 5.0 on a Compaq, through a Mac PowerPC). However, if you have Mac OS
7.5.3, as we do on one of our Quadras, you will need FileGuard 3.0.1. It has a
slightly different look, easy enough to figure out, but the log sheet output is
*not* in the form of a spreadsheet, and there is no way to make it so within
FileGuard (according to ASD tech support), except to import the file into Excel
and edit it *heavily*. This is a major inconvenience for us, besides the problem
that the more you edit, the more errors you make. But the 2.9.3 version does not
work on Mac operating system 7.5.3, so I'm stuck with version 3.0.1. Unless and
until someone comes up with a better answer for logging and billing users, I'm
stuck with this version.

The address for ASD is:

fax: 909/624-9574

BTW, FileGuard is an extremely powerful security package, way more than I need,
but it is the only thing on the market I have found that gives me what I want. I
tried a product called TimeSlips, but it does not log users the way I need.

I'm always looking for better user logging software, and I'll be watching this
thread with great interest.

Hello All!

Does anyone know of some MAC software which requires users to log on and will
track the amount of time a user is on the workstation? We are trying to
develop a fair way of charging people for time on the FACSCalibur. Does anyone
have any ideas for logging time on the cytometer?

If there are a fair number of responses, I will summarize and submit to the
mailing list!

Thanks for your ideas!
