The most sensitive flow cytometric indicator of oxidative burst
activity is not dichlorofluorescin (DCF), but dihydrorhodamine 123 (DHR).
While DHR has other uses in flow, it is ideal for detection of oxygen
reactive species, and is 7 fold brighter than DCF under the same
conditions. The DHR assay can be performed using al little as 200ul of
whole blood, involves a technically simple procedure, and unambiguously
indicates NADPH oxidase activity.

DHR is available through Molecular Probes in Eugene OR. (catalog #
D-632)
