This message is in reply to Michael Gurnsey's question about upgrading his
FACScan to a power Mac:

We have been running our FACScan off the Quadra 650 for a year now and
recently debated the PowerMac upgrade. We decided to buy a PowerMac for
off-line analysis and leave the Quadra for acquisition. The speed of
acquisition is limited by the FACScan, not the Quadra. The cost of
upgrading to the PowerMac for acquistion was considerably more, and we
could not justify it since we just upgraded to the Quadra. The new
software for the PowerMac has some advantages, but these are also more for
analysis than acquisition. We archive data short term on a Syquest (270
MB) and are beginning to do permanent archival on CD's.
