Postdoctoral Research Position
Life Sciences Division
Los Alamos National Laboratory
Los Alamos, New Mexico USA

Postdoctoral Research Associate (2 yr. appointment) to work on the
development of advanced, flow cytometric, laser-based instrumentation to
quantify excited-state lifetimes of fluorochromes bound to macromolecular
components in cells and subcellular components by multifrequency,
frequency-domain (phase shift/amplitude demodulation) measurement methods.
The new measurement technology is to be developed, characterized, and
evaluated in terms of its utility to study biological problems relevant to
the programmatic needs of the DOE/OHER and the biomedical research
community. The ultimate goal is to use excited-state lifetime(s) as a
spectroscopic tool to study the interaction of fluorescent probes with
cellular biological processes, each other, and the surrounding
microenvironment, in the context of cellular responses induced by radiation
(e. g., damage and repair mechanisms) and environmental contaminants
associated with energy production.

Position requirements: Ph.D. degree in physics, engineering, biophysics,
chemistry or related field of study; a knowledge of optics, lasers
(cw/mode-locked), spectroscopy (fluorescence lifetime), electro-optics, rf
and pulse electronics, and computers; a familiarity with flow cytometry, or
willingness to learn the technology; and a willingness to work with other
scientists on the development and application of novel instrumentation
methods to cell biology research problems.

For consideration: submit a curriculum vitae, with publications listing
and references to:
