Re: Low green-red fluorescence of bacterial cells

Does anyone know about (recent) publications dealing with
autofluorescence of bacterial cells or, which molecules are
responsible for green and red fluorescence at 488 nm excitation.

We observe green and red clusters in non-fixed bacterial populations
stained with CFDA and PI, of which fluorescence intensities are only
1/10 (or less) of autofluorescence levels of unstained cells. Cells in
those clusters show normal size by FSC or TOF (and microscopy).

Thanks in advance for hints.
