Ray,
I have solved this problem quite recently using a freeware version of
KarlBridge, which is available on ftp://ftp.net.ohio-state.edu/pub/kbridge/ and
which is very easy to setup. All you need is an old 286 PC (or better, 1 MB
RAM, 1 FDD, no keybord, no monitor) and two SMC-Elite 16 or Ultra 16 Ethernet
cards. All together less than $250. With this software you can connect almost
any LAN to any LAN. You can even setup a firewall on your LAN. It is worth to
connect it to UPS.
Of course, you can buy only one extra Ethernet card in your Mac or PC and
choose a routing software for connecting two LANs. Unfortunately I have found
only commercial versions which are mostly more expensive.
