I have used SuperFrost+ slides (Fisher 12-550-15) to successfully retain
as few as 50 sorted formalin-fixed cells for subsequent morphologic and
immunochemical processing. Viable cells are also retained, but not as
well as ffixed. This may be due more to shear and other forces, less
to the ccharge imparted by formalin...can't say. In either case, it's
helpful to place a minute volume of liquidd (media, fixative soln., etc.)
as a cushion.
