True. And I don't know something cheaper. But if you're going to keep
your Paintjet(s) around anyway for HP computer's, consider these points.
If you have HP 310's (which can't network affordably) the $500 card will
also enable you to use free software such as WinMDI and MFI by transferring
data to PC's (or a network server). Network access may also open up a
cheap and fast backup route (2 gigabyte DAT tapes cost $12 each).
The maximum resolution of a Paintjet is 180 x 180 dots per inch (dpi); it
also allows 90 dpi. The latter is fine for many purposes, and very fast.
It takes about 3 minutes for a Paintjet to print a full-page in color at
90 dpi, 6 minutes at 180 dpi. My impression is that the newer 300+ dpi
color inkjet printers take even longer per page (perhaps someone
who uses one can enlighten us?). Also, if your computer isn't the latest
and greatest, it may take quite a while to calculate all those dots at
300+ dpi! So those old Paintjets have their virtues.
Reminder: detailed instructions for setting up PC - IEEE-488 -> Paintjet
printing are available in the catalog of free software at:
