We have come across cells with the phenotype you describe. We were doing
LDA's with different lymphocyte subsets against virally infected MHC matched
fibroblast target cells. We found the CD8,16,56 CD3 dim cells were able
to kill virally infected MHC MISMATCHED targets, we found them to be TCR
negative. I can't tell you anything about their relationship to disease,
prior to doing our LDA's we remove these cells by sorting CD16,56
negatives as they spoil our results. They have an NK-like function and
have been described in the literature before although I couldn't lay my
hands on the references, if I come across them I'll e_mail them to you.

By the way the weather is Cambridge is typical summer...in the fifties,
cloudy and wet, pity us.
