Hi Don,

There is a shareware on the Mac called PopChar, which allows you to insert
all characters (even the ones that have no key equivalent) in any
application, just by clicking and selection the caracter from a popup menu
that you can configure to popup in any corner of the Menubar... This should
allow you to get the # easily...
