Most people use Texas Red together with APC to get two colors off a
second laser.... but we no longer need TR for this purpose! New
tandems of APC (Cy7APC) are excellent dyes which can be used
simultaneously with APC (see the upcoming June '96 issue of
Cytometry). This provides a two-color system for currently available
HeNe excitation.
So, for a new sorter, you might want to consider just going with the
HeNe and using the Cy7APC dyes with APC. And then you won't even have
to worry about the cross-laser compensation that comes up with the PE
excitation from the dye laser!
