Swapping PCs on EPICS ELITES

Dear Coulter Elite Users: Our recent attempt of replacing the 386 PC
on the EPICS ELITE finally drowned in futility. We had a 66 mHz 486
Zeos PC, with a 600 MB HD. It looked a good match. After trials and
tribs with mixed up RS 232 port addressing, we thought finally we had
it together. Only to realize that the COULTER LISTER board will not
transmit to the PC logic in any shape or form, even though it seems
collecting data from the cytometer. Upon suggestions from Coulter
people (who by the way exhibited exemplary helpfulness), we swapped bus
locations, cleansed contact points until the bovines came home, nothing
doing. So in disgust we gave up and reconfigured the old 386 sloth
back to its original snail paced state. Caveat igitur: The COULTER
lister board will most likely not work with 486 backplanes. How true is
this for different brand PCs? ... is a good question. Pete Bercz USEPA
