Colleagues.... Well it seems our friends who use MACs are having a
hard time with the Cytometry CD ROM. Below are some hints for MAC
users...

Due to a minor problem with Italian Customs, we have 200 aditional CDs
that never made it to Rimini....don't ask...they are on their way back
hopefully soon to Purdue. So if anyone still wants a copy based upon
the origonal conditions...please send a message to

Here are some hints from Steve Kelley for MAC users who are having trouble
loading or running the CDROM...

1. Macs seem in general to be sort of twitchy in their CD-ROM
hardware. I did see in testing that sometimes I had to eject and
re-insert the CD a couple of times until it saw it.

2. You will absolutely need the ISO-9660 extension. I think that
it is probably included automatically with any Mac with a CD-ROM,
but I won't swear to anything.

3. There may be some problems running the CD with netscape for MACs
due to the link problem (see below).
You might try loading the Mosaic browser from the CD rom.

The CD is ISO-9660, not HFS (native Mac) so the Mac will see
everything on the disk as a data file.

Once you get it loaded, there are a couple of problems that we found
too late to change. In particular there are several
(about 40 out of a total of 64000 links) hypertext links that have
incorrect syntax. (Specifically, they are missing the trailing quote
in the HREF tag. Oops.)

Sadly, the main1.html file is afflicted, and a couple of the links on
that page may be affected. We found that some browsers
don't care about the problem (Mosaic) and others do (eg Netscape). You
can guess which kind we used for testing. The link to the Table of
Contents is OK, as far as I can tell, so if you have problems once you
get the CD mounted, try going to that link on the first page. This can
be achieved by selecting the file "index.htm" instead of "main1.htm" in
the initial loading step, or by clicking on the "Table of contents" link
if you do load the "main1.htm" file.

Above notes from Steve Kelley.

Good luck. Please make sure you fax us the comments page after you have
used the CD rom. We are planning a series of CDs and need your
feedback.
