Here's a brief summary of the replies to my inquiry about service contracts:

Tom McHugh, UCSF

We did the same thing a couple of years ago (switch from BD to CIC) and
we are very pleased with the savings and the service is identical.

Stuart Gezelter, Rockefeller University

we have uised cic at rockefeller for our facstar+ and facscan for
several years now.
we still call BDIS for service, although we now submit the bills to CIC.

there have been no major problems, although you do have to keep track of the
process to make sure you get invoices in time etc..

and yes, its a lot cheaper.

I received a few more responses from others at the same
institutions, and all reported that after the switch to CIC, the service
from BD remained the same. I did not receive any negative responses, but I
only received e-mail from two universities. Several people replied asking
for information about CIC, so I will provide their address below. Some
people were confused about what kind of service they offer. CIC is a
maintenance management service that provides serice contracts for
laboratory equipment. They guarantee that the service in your current
agreement will be matched and their contracts usually save the university
about 30%. Our vet school and our primate center are switching all their
agreements to CIC, so we should know more about the level of service in the
coming months.

The person I have been dealing with is:

or you can visit their web page at www.cicagency.com

Hope this is helpful!
