A related note: Contract price is not the only issue to consider. My
experience with BD as a contract holder was that, not only did I receive
prompt and effective service, I also received "perks;" e.g. software
upgrades, notification of revisions to hardware/software, 'courtesy' calls,
plus attention above and beyond the call of duty (or contract). I don't
know if Jim McNeely and Hank Drake (BD guys) are exceptions, but I do
know that when you buy a contract from BD, you get much more.

I know this sounds like a sales pitch, but it's not (I don't even have a
BD machine anymore). I think it's important to consider this when deciding
to go 'third party.'
