Since then, there many more methods have appeared and, apparently, more
confusion. To alleviate this uncertainty, I propose an on-line forum via the
ISAC World Wide Web site discussing methods and interpretations of the
various ways of assaying apoptosis. Although some of this could be done via
this bulletin board, the Web has several advantages. First, one can use
pictures (black and white or color; diagrams or photomicrographs) to
illustrate a point, and text can be formatted for better legibility. Second,
the discussion is focussed on a subject in one place--you don't have to wade
through a variety of other topics. And last, I agree Vince Shankey's remark
that people who worry about performing quality cytometric procedures should
be involved; an ISAC-sponsored forum makes sense.
The forum will work is via submissions via the ISAC WWW Page. Anyone can
submit, though there will be editorial oversight for off-topic remarks. There
will be presentations, and the opportunity for follow-up comments. Any
pictures can be included with your publication; short video clips can be used
as well if they illustrate a point. (Sound could be included, but you'll have
to convince me that a sound file in this context has illustrative value!)
Given that many of us are getting ready to go to Rimini, the forum cannot
take place until next month. Instructions about submissions (and formatting
for illustrations) will be placed on the ISAC Web Page and announcement
placed on the Purdue Bulletin Board.
This will be the first on-line forum at the ISAC Web site. I look forward to
your contributions.
Dave
