Yes, a null modem is a bad idea only because the HP is an HP, not a PC.
Where can you get FREE software for a HP-9000?
The cheapest way we *used to* use was @ $900 (vs @ $1,200 for FACSNET)
Verity Software House's WHPPC (Windows HP to PC) Phone # (207)729-6767
It's an HPIB (IEEE488) interface card in the PC and software on both.
Limited to @5 meter 2-way, @15 meters HP-> PC 1-way
I think there's a MUCH slower and cheaper way, but I haven't tried it:
Reading HP floppies on a PC.

If you have a HP 9000/300, it would cost too much to FACSNET, because the
Ethernet card is not included, as they are with the 320's.

I only use FACSNET now...

Greeting fellow "cytometrists"...
This may be a bit silly, but is there a reason why hooking the two
machines through a null-modem cable and communications software wouldn't
work for this purpose? For example, just have both machines run Kermit
or Procomm and be connected serially with a null-modem cable?

Just a thought.
