OBJECTIVE:

Position as Scientist :
Quantitative Cytology and Histology, Cytometry, Analytical Microscopy, Digital Image Analysis.

AREAS OF EXPERTISE:

Morphology of hematopoietic cells (including red and white blood cells), epithelial cells and cells of connective tissue. Optical microscopy (bright field, dark field, phase contrast, fluorescence, etc.).
Design, fabrication and use of image acquisition, processing and analysis systems for biomedical applications (quantitative microscopy, analytical cytology and histology, cytopathology).
Commercial image acquisition and analysis systems (Quantimet-520, CAS-200, MicroImager, BioImage). Computer programming (FORTRAN, PASCAL, C) within UNIX, DOS, Macintosh operating systems. Image analysis packages: NIH Image and TCL/BDS Image (Macintosh), SCIL Image (Sun UNIX).

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

1993 - present Visiting Assistant Professor Department of Pathology, University of Rochester, New York

Member of a research team utilizing high resolution image analysis in the study of sickle cell disease,
the analysis of DNA ploidy and numerical chromosomal aberrations revealed by fluorescence in situ hybridization in patients with bladder cancer and the immunohistochemical study of neuroendocrine system of the prostate.

1991 - 1993 Senior Scientist Department of Histology & Embryology, PeoplesÕ Friendship University, and
1990 - 1993 Adjunct Assistant Professor Department of Pathology, University of Rochester, New York

Project leader for the quantitative microscopy study of the adaptive response of the human hematopoietic system to different external conditions.
Developed image processing and analysis algorithms for extraction of quantitative features to describe morphology (shape and texture) of red blood cells in patients with sickle cell disease.
Taught course entitled ÒMethods of optical microscopy in biomedical researchÓ for medical students.

1984 - 1990 Senior Researcher Department of Histology & Embryology, PeoplesÕ Friendship University

Developed and used image analysis techniques to study the morphology of different cellular systems (blood, red bone marrow, connective tissue).
Taught course entitled ÒMethods of optical microscopy in biomedical researchÓ for medical students.

Involved with cyto- and histological specimen preparation (smears; paraffin and frozen tissue sectioning; histochemical staining) and microscopic analysis.
