In response to the request by Mike Herron :
Propidium Iodide bound to DNA has maximal excitation at 536 nm and an
emission maximum at 617 nm. That means, it excites well with the 488 and 514
nm lines of an argon laser and optimally with a green HeNe laser; its
fluorescence can be collected in the range from 590 to 690 nm.
Ethidium homodimer has similar spectral properties, while ethidium bromide
(monomer) is more blue shifted (ex : 510 / em : 595).
