I had no idea I was going to kick up so much dust when I asked about high
speed sorting (25,000 events per second +). Thank you to everyone who sent in
information. To summarize the data I have in so far:

I received price quotes from BD, Coutler and Cytomation. Sales
representatives came to visit from each. The numbers were all comparable,
both in price and how fast the machines could sort.

No one mailed who actually had a Coulter High Speed sorter up and running.
No one mailed who actually had a BD High Speed Sorter up and running.

I received 3 responses from individuals who actually had a Cytomation MoFlo up
and running (Modular Flow). It appears that the MoFlo really can do 25,000
cells per second on a average day. Up to 40,000 cells a second on a good day.
It appears that changes in electronics and a high pressure fluidics system
allow them to do this (to over simplify things).

I think the best thing to do at this point is to visit labs where the sorters
are operational and do "rare event" sorting to let the companies prove they
can do what they claim. I plan to bring bone marrow and sort CD34+ cells.

I still would like to hear more from anyone who will take the time. I will
keep everyone posted regarding the information I discover.
Thanks again,
