Although my attending Rimini is in doubt at the moment, I want to thank
you and Julie for a valuable workshop, and I think a core managers bull
session should be part of every ISAC meeting. Good core managers fall
somewhere in between PI's and operators, with considerable expertise in a
variety of biological systems, and a thorough knowledge of the technical
details of the instrumentation. We are also expected to serve as liasons
or consultants to researchers who may have no idea which end of a Pipetman
goes in the tube (believe it, I saw them do it!). Many of us are faced
with the mundane details of management, dealing with suppliers, billing,
promotion of our services, etc. (We're such wonderful folks!)
I found the opportunity to exchange ideas (commiserate?) with other
core managers valuable, and I was quite inspired by Julie's
tough stance with chronic latecomers! I'm also sure any of us would be
willing to help continue this "tradition" for future meetings. As far as
agenda, I think that will be guided by whatever topic is on our minds at
the time, but I think the idea is an excellent one!
BTW--Elite users, keep sending that info--I'm compiling as fast as I can!
