EDITORIAL NOTE TO CYTOMETRY USER GROUP
The message below was listed today on the Cytometry Email list. I am
concerned that when information is posted that it is somewhat reliable
and verifiable. Making your own CDs is not trivial and while there
are definite advantages, there are mony traps. We
posted a detailed evaluation of this technology 6 months ago after
using a system for at least 6 months. The price of the recorders
is coming down and the CDs are now available for less than $12
each not $25 at a number of places.

I called the 800 number listed and they could give me virtually no
information about the software - it only comes with that CD writer
and there are no reviews available yet. Let the buyer beware. While
it is good to share information, this user group should not be used
to post advertisements for particular companies except for
exceptional circumstances (such as where a user had purchased,
used and was able to discuss the pros and cons of a product). If
someone does buy it, please share with us your experience.

Subject: Make your own CD's

For those interested in creating their own CD-ROM's for archiving data, I
came across a system from MIRROR for $3000. It has a SCSI-2 interface and
features Apple Extension for integration into Mac environments. Software is
included and the system supports multi-session. Each CD can hold 650MB of
data. For information call 800-643-0635. Blank CD's are $25 each in
quantities of 10 or more.
