To Dave Gebhardt who asked about fl. plate readers in core FACS labs. My
FACS lab shares space with another lab that has a plate reader(Molecular
Devices) that no one takes care of or responsibility for. As such there are
nasty signs hanging all over it, no one pays attention to the sign-up book,
and fist-fights have broken out over its use or misuse. Much the same
happens to the off-line FACS analysis workstation that I placed in a central
location for facility users to use. This is precisely why we do not let
anyone but the dedicated operators touch any of the FACS machines, even the
analysers.

My second comment is concerning third party PC acquisition systems for
sorters, and that is to get many many opinions before purchasing because
there are some unhappy people out there.
