In partial response to a question by Don Mosier about the safety of sorting
unfixed cells, OSHA does not require Hepatitis B vaccination of persons
working with human blood or blood products. Rather, they recommend that
such personnel be offered the vaccination and if they refuse, they must sign
an acknowledgment that they have been offered the vaccine and refused.

Does anyone know of a documented transmission of any human virus to a
sorter operator associated with aerosol generation in sorting or analysis?
Also, to what extent have sorter operators complied with the 1992 OSHA
requirement for hepatitis B vaccination of lab workers coming in contact
with human blood or blood products?
