D Values for Dr. Kilidare

In reply to the request for information about the use of D values:
I know nothing about the practice at the Mayo Clinic, but as one who was
involved with originally perpetrating the use of the K-S test in analyzing kappa
and lambda labeling of B cells I am happy to testify that the D value expressed
as a percent (i.e. multiplied by 100) is the figure that is usually used. Used
in this way it is best thought of not as a test statistic but as a rough measure
of the magnitude of the difference between the two curves.
If one does "mixing" experiments it turns out that the D value is roughly
proportional to the number of abnormal (clonal) B cells added to the mixture and
thus it can be thought of as an estimate of the proportion of abnormal cells
among those that were analyzed.
