Original Question:
Dear Colleagues:
I have received many responses regarding purchasing a table for our new
Canto II. All of the info. were very, very useful to us. We finally
made a purchase based on your info, which saved us money. I'd like to
thank you all for your help! The responses are summarized here. The
names and addresses were deleted already. Hope the summary can be
used
by the other labs in future.

Responses:
1. Have you tried Newport? Here's a link to their tables, though it might be more than you need, and I didn't check pricing. However, they are in LA/Orange county.

You might also try Edmund Industrial Optics - they tend to be less expensive.

2. We used www.steelsentry.com their prices were pretty good and they
quote
a price with shipping before your order and it ended up being about
the
same as BD but much less than the price you mention.

3. Try Anthro carts. Google it. We have LSRII's sitting on them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Anthro.com has a huge variety of tables and desks that are very nice quality. I bought one for one of my LSRIIs and did a simple reinforcement (added an extra set of posts) to guard against sag due to the excessive weight of the LSR's

5. I like AnthroBenches, made by Anthro (http://www.anthro.com). AnthroBenches are a sturdier version of the familiar AnthroCarts often used as computer desks. They are easy to assemble and can be customized with shelves, keyboard trays, etc. They are also on casters, so you can move your instrument (i.e. for service) if you need to. They support >250 kilos, and are stable enough for most commercial cytometers.
As I recall, the cost was about $1500 apiece fully equipped - not cheap, but they are lifetime investments. We have used them for most of our instruments. And I have no commercial relationship with Anthro, etc., etc. ;-)

6. I second the motion to use Anthro benches. I have used them for many years and they have provided outstanding performance.

7. We purchased a table (in 2004) for our FACS Aria from Tovar Industries (www.tovarind.com) in Hollister, CA at a considerably cheaper price than BD's. We were able to specify the exact size we wanted.

8. I also received a call from another operator recommending a table from Tovar Industries.

9. We have an original FACS Canto, not a Canto II---I don't know if
they're the same size. We bought a table from Above Board MFG (www.work-benches.com). The cost was $330 plus $135 shipping, so it ended up being less than $500. The specs for our table are as follows:
BASIX Workbench (http://work-benches.com/basix_workbench.php)
72" x 30" x 30" (WxDxH)
Steel Frame, PLAM Surface
Our table is big enough to fit the instrument itself plus two 19" flat-screen monitors and a keyboard (we keep the computer tower next to the table on the floor). The fluidics cart fits underneath the table for a smaller overall footprint. If you need any more info, feel free to get in touch.
Hope this helps,

10. Try Workplace Systems: http://www.workplacesystemsinc.com/
We bought a table with wheels from them for an LSR that cost around $700 (the table, not the LSR).

11. I'm not sure about the Canto II but for our Canto we had Plant Operations build stilts for an existing table so the wet cart would fit underneath. So far it has worked fine. Its the same table our Calibur had sat on previously. hope this helps,

12. We have FACSCanto II instrument and we are using old table [30 inches width, 80 inches long (if you want fit two monitors) and at least 26 inches hight to fit fluidics cart underneath]. Good luck,
