In our lab, the tech's role is only to run the sample and produce raw data. The analysis and interp. of this data including creating histiograms is the pathologist's role. Therefore, nothing is reported out of the flow lab, unless it has already been seen by the pathos. The exeption is the CD4/CD8 numbers for HIV patients. these only require tech. authorization.

Subject: Authorisation of immunohenotyping results

Dear flowers

I would like to ask those of you involved in clinical immunophenotyping what the procedures in your labs are for authorisation of results of leukaemia/lymphoma immunophenotyping studies. We routinely have the results authorised by a technologist working on the flow cytometry bench, but have found some errors in interpretation recently. Are all results to be verified and authorised by a haematopathologist before being given to clinicians?

Regards
