Gayle,

I've learned that if you export as 'Experiment', you get all of the data
including settings, but you have numbers instead of sample IDs as you
designated them during acquisition, e.g., 'T4', etc.

If, on the other hand, you export as 'FCS files', you can see the sample
IDs you designated, but (at least they say - I haven't looked) you lose
some of the info about your sample such as some settings.

If you are using only your DiVa computer for analysis of archived files,
you should be OK with 'Experiment'-exported, since these files, when
retrieved in DiVa on that computer, will still have the sample IDs as
well as all the other info.

If you are analyzing archived files using FlowJo (as we are trying to
do), however, then files exported as 'Experiment' will have those,
pardon me, damnable numbers instead of the IDs they were saved as
originally.

I 'm going to try and buy another copy of DiVa software/dongle from BD
and install it on the offline computer on which we are running FlowJo.
Then I'm going to export everyone's files to a CD as 'Experiments' from
the 'primary' DiVa computer. They will then bring the files up for
analysis either using DiVa on the second computer, which won't require
any extra manipulation, or they can bring them up in DiVa and re-export
as FCS files for FlowJo (so nice to be able to overlay histograms using
click-and-drag, the way FlowJo makes it possible!). Not exactly easy
but hopefully it will work.

There is another way to find the sample IDs of 'Exeriment'-exported
files when using FlowJo (in FlowJo under preferences, I believe) but I
found it to not be easy.

Hope this helps.
