[ Long file name conversion ]

Hey somebody out there,

For some years I use the WinMDI software. Mostly nothing but nice.

I still have a question about an esthetical annoyance. I save my data (FCS-files) to a memory stick, copy it to my hard disk from which I open the files with WinMDI.

But in the WinMDI-menu 'Open Dotplot' I see the strangest characters in the names of folders or even names of files.

For instance : a file which was recorded on the FACS Canto was named 'trial1 + CD49f-PE' (as well as on memory stick and hard disk) appeared as 'TRIAL~62.FCS' in that 'Open dotplot' menu. Another example : 'Trial 1 eluate' was changed into 'TRIAL~YH.FCS'
I sometimes even see dollarsymbols in the filenames.

In fact it is not that big problem since sequence of read samples keeps remained but it would be nicer if the original given names could be maintained.

Any suggestions or help?

Thank you veruy much of course,
gert
