To Northwest flow'ers and all others interested, I'm happy to announce the next two meetings of Cascade Cytometry User's Group. On April 5, 2005 on the OHSU campus in MRB 310 at 6pm Adam Treister (of FlowJo) will be presenting on the technique of probability binning. What is da Noise, What is da Funk? Statistical methods to compare biological populations Synopsis: Probability binning is a method related to the Cox chi-square approach, but with modified binning such that it minimizes the maximal expected variance. This algorithm has been shown to detect small differences between two cell populations and it does so in a quantitative way. Adam will also be giving a FlowJo seminar earlier in the day, April 5, from 1 - 4pm in MRB 634. For more information on the FlowJo seminar, contact Dr. Tony Bakke at bakkea@ohsu.edu. On June 7 there will be a CCUG field trip down to Eugene to Molecular Probes for a tour of the facilities and presentations. See the program below. 5:00 - 6:15 Arrivals, dinner, and tours of flow lab 6:15 - 7:30 - Short Molecular Probes presentations (20-30') Instrument calibration & standardization - Yu-Zhong Zhang, Ph.D. Live cell cycle analysis options - Jolene Bradford Apoptosis markers over time after induction - Bill Godfrey 7:30-8:15 Case studies in clinical flow cytometry Mike Suter, MT, Technical Specialist, OML (Eugene,OR) & Daniel Kerrigan, MD, Pathology Consultants (Eugene, OR) R.S.V.P., particularly for the field trip, would be appreciated.
