Hi Adrian,

Contact your local Windows support guru. With WinNT/2000/XP, there's an
option to audit user login/logouts etc. on the local machine as well as to
the domain. Exporting the log file at the end of each month will get you all
the data you need to get into Excel and crunch the numbers there.

Just make sure to explicitly warn users to log out when they're done, or
you'll get complaints about overbilling them later.

Subject: Tracking Windows usage (for billing)

Hi all,

I've seen this question asked at least a couple of times on this list
but I've not seen any answers...

Basically we are looking for software to track usage (ie user and
time) of Windows-based flow cytometers (in particular BD machines).
If it had a module to generate a bill at the end that would be even
better :)
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm sure we could roll-our-own solution with user logins from our
ldap directory but I would prefer not to have to connect the
cytometer PCs to that system and I don't really want to give more
work to our over-burdened IT guy.
