[instrument chargeback accounting]

Dear colleagues,
having just bought a FACSAria, we are thinking about setting up some
access charges.
The idea is that we (the lab in charge of the Aria) would provide
secondary reagents and plastic consumables (to obtain higher discount)
and all this would be included in an access-charge based on a
30min/hourly rate, covering for the service contract fees as well.
Our finance department isn't happy with this solution and wants to keep
two separate accounts, one for covering the maintanace contract costs.
As I would like to offer access to the Aria as a service, rather than
having everyone pressing knobs and bobs, I would like to ask the
community how this is normally handled? We are a University, and we
didn't had a FACS machine with these capabilities before (frankly, there
was only one person before using a very old Coulter).
Any advice?
Thanks in advance
