Due to the renovation and expansion of the Flow Cytometry Core Facility 
at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, there exists a 
Research Associate position in the Department of Medicine.  The FACS 
Core facility consists of multiple FACS analyzers, a 4 laser LSR II 
analyzer, Vantage SE Diva cell sorter, FACStar+ Turbo sorter and a 
MoFlo MLS high speed sorter.  The Research Associate will interact with 
our successful and diverse Research  Investigators and highly qualified 
and trained Core Facility Professional Staff.

Position Description:

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the guidance of the Director of the Flow Cytometry Core Facility 
the Research Associate will execute and perform research experiments in 
the Flow Cytometry Core Facility which serves the diverse Research 
community at UMMS. Experiments involving Molecular Biology and 
Genetics, Development Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Virology, and 
Cell Biology will be conducted.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: (Detailed list of duties and responsibilities 
the position performs)

-Performs Flow Cytometry sample acquisition and quantitative data 
analysis.
-Interacts with investigators regarding interpretation of results.
-Conducts computer data analysis; data bank and literature searches as 
required.
-Comply with all safety and infection control standards appropriate to 
the position.
-Maintains accurate records of results; compiles and analyzes data; 
performs computations; may formally present analyzed data and assist in 
reports.
-Responsibilities for ordering, maintenance and inventory of laboratory 
equipment and supplies.
-May perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education – Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in a Science	or 
equivalent experience.

Experience - One year of full time relevant experience.

Knowledge/Skills – Tissue culture and sterile techniques, Flow 
Cytometry acquisition and data analysis.  MAC and PC computer skills 
including familiarity with Flow Cytometry software, effective verbal 
and written communication skills necessary to interact with all levels 
of staff and faculty.
