DNA content and DNA index for zoo animals

We have a student who's working on a project measuring the DNA Index of 
the WBCs of various zoo animals (Lions, tigers, and bears...Oh my!) using 
standard flow staining techniques.

The problem he is having is that he cannot seem to find any good literature references.
Does anyone out there know of some good references in this area?
