GFP-Cy5 compensation

Dear Flowers


I would like to try delivering labelled DNA to GFP-transfected cells. So I
am considering labelling the DNA with perhaps rhodamine or Cy5. Does anyone
have experience and/or opinions on this with respect to the overlapping
spectra, and hence gating and compensation? 


Also, using "red" labels would make it impossible to add in a dye like 7AAD
(to stain for dead cells), right?
