Colleagues: Almost 400 have done the "Future of Cytometry" survey. It would be great if we could get even more. I know it's a pain to go do a survey - I hate it too - but this is possibly the easiest way you can express your opinion. Your opinions are very important and will be listened to. There is so much wonderful information in these suveys I hope that we can all start to see some new opportunities and implement some of them. Again the survey is at http://tinyurl.com/yq17 Here are a few easy to interpret results so far: - Are you optimistic about the future of Cytometry? 96.6% YES - 75% of the students and postdocs who answered the survey are NOT members of ISAC. - 53% of you indicated you are not positive about meeting costs (as opposed to only 17% who had no problem with them)(this was from 2 questions where you indicated things you were positive or negative about) - 88 respondents took the time to answer the open-ended question about what you would do to change ISAC (many wrote several lines!!) -education and training needs are very significant desires of a huge number of respondents - 70% of respondents are members of ISAC - 38% respondents are under 40.......so does that mean that 62% are over the.........!!! This survey is producing some really interesting information. I will make the entire survey available so you can all pore over it in a few weeks. What is clear to me, is that many of you have strong opinions. This is good. It is also true however, that 60% of respondents stated they have never tried to communicate their feelings to those that run the ISAC organziation!!) I am cautious about overburdening you with emails because, like you, my email box overflows too.....but this is important stuff for us people interested in cytometry/cytomics to discuss. I have decided to delay for a couple of weeks the next very important survey directed only at CORE MANAGERS/DIRECTORS who may well be some of the most important people we have!! I really would like to get even more input on the "Future" survey.
