you can sort them much the same as any other cell line. I only use a viablity marker where there is a high number of dead cells, otherwise discriminate on FSC.SSC... but you can definitely use PI and very likely 7-AAD- same as mammalian cell lines. Only weird thing I've come across was with Mosquito cells, viable cells also took up PI, these were sorted (had too, they were 100% pos)proved not to be dead cells as they grew in culture. regards Ann Atberger -------------------- talk21 your FREE portable and private address on the net at http://www.talk21.com Greetings everyone: I am beginning to sort and analyze drosophila cell lines and am interested in other "flowers" experience. Any special considerations? Does anyone use 7AAD as a viability marker in transfected drosophila cell lines? Do insect cell lines take up 7AAD in a similar fashion to mammalian cell lines? Thanks in advance for your wisdom. I'm on my way to buy a fly swatter. Have a happy Friday! -Rich Richard F. Konz, Jr. Senior Scientist Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research, Inc.
