Problems with a seasick Facscalibur

Hello all

We recently had a few problems with our Facscalibur while out at
sea. The first problem was with the flow rates, we had to run all of
our samples on high flow, as medium flow was only working
intermittently (when running a sample the event rate would vary and
sometimes drop to 0 and stop.) Low flow wasn't working at all, we
would get 0 events/second and when the same sample was run on
the same settings on high flow we would get 2000 events/second!!

Secondly when viewing a forward vs side scatter dot plot the events
would move up and down on forward scatter in time with the
movement of the ship (good to watch if you want to get seasick).
Apparently these problems were caused by the movement of the
ship creating back pressure in the waste line, however it didn't
seem to improve when we ran a waste line directly from the flow
cell to a bucket on the floor (no back pressure).

We have taken this machine out to sea before and not seen these
problems. Has anyone else had similar problems or have any
ideas on what we can do to eliminate it?

Thank you
Andrea
