Dear Allen, I, too had a similar problem when I migrated to '98. I have a Pinnacle Apex 4.6 GB drive. Under the old OS, files were being read, but '98 did not see them. Fortunately, I also had on hand a smaller Pinnacle drive, (a 128 MB drive, which Pinnacle has discontinued) with just about all data archived, and which '98 and the older OS has no problem seeing. I think it all has to do with how earlier versions of Windows partition disk space. When I was working under 3.1, the 4.6 GB disks had to be formatted in a rather "creative" way, but '98 could not see them, because '98 can format larger areas of disk space. My take on this was, 3.1 set markers that '98 could not locate, because '98 was looking in different places on the disk. You will get responses from those more astute than I, but I can venture to say, IF there any systems left with a more primitive version of Windows and a SCSI and driver that would run your MO drive, get the files off your disk and onto a zip drive plugged into the printer port...then move those files from the Zip back onto the MO disk on the system running under '98. (Drivers for the Zip drive have to be installed on both systems, of course!) Tedious? You bet. I have had a bear of a time trying to find a way to get '98 to read those 4.6 GB disks formatted under 3.1/DOS. I inquired about the problem to Pinnacle's tech support, but the responder at Pinnacle used so much tech lingo that the information was totally unintelligible and therefore useless. I have decided to pour out my soul to the entire flownet on your inquiry, because I also need some help with this! I know people on Flownet will use terminologies that bench scientists can understand. This is a very frustrating problem, and I have felt, and continue to feel your pain.
